…Let’s go deeper—Territory that’s already available

In terms of inheritance, as believers, we have our greatest inheritance found in Christ. Many people don’t know it, but this inheritance is available to them as well. But they need to claim it by becoming sons and daughters of God. And even once we believe, we sometimes don’t realize the territory available to us.

Matthew 5:5: “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” It’s certain that the Heavenly Kingdom will be ruled by those of a kind and gentle spirit. All who claim the title as sons and daughters of God will claim those attributes. Even in the world we live in now, a kind and humble heart is one which makes the way for promotion. But hardship and calamity still await the meek on this earth. What inheritance isn’t granted, or denied on this earth, will be ultimately realized when He returns.

Psalms 2:8: “Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.” The inheritance of Christ was to possess all nations. The Father left open the whole of the earth for Christ to rule and reign over. Along with the inheritance, all who submit to His Lordship are brought under his kingdom as sons and daughters. Some willingly submit, but all will ultimately bow to confess that He is God.

Hebrews 11:16: “But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.” This verse follows the ‘Hall of Fame of Faith’ listed in the first verses of Hebrews 11. All of these great examples of faith lived out their faith with a belief in a better country. They knew that there was something better than they were experiencing here. It’s partly what gave them the strength to endure trials and hardship that, without this belief, would have made the weight of the journey all the more difficult. But keeping their eyes pointed upward was a source of encouragement that they would have missed had they not known their inheritance.

Titus 3:7: “That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Our inheritance is realized once we become sons through justification by grace. The grace granted us is much like the inheritance given—-it’s not earned, but granted to all who remain members of the family. It’s a rightful sum given because of who you are—a son and daughter of God. It only goes unrealized when we neglect to receive His grace.

Ephesians 1:18: “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,” What God has in store for us, none of us fully knows. We can, at best, catch a glimpse of these things. That God has a plan for each of us is sure. Much of His plan with the inherent riches and rewards go, sadly, unrealized. Unfortunately, many an unbeliever never claim the inheritance that was available all along. They might never received the grace and forgiveness available to them. The believer, thankfully, is one who knew what was available to him and laid claim to it. But even the believer has untold riches still available in fully laying hold of God’s plan for them. It just requires an open and willing heart to seek the fullness of His will.
